Given all the changes happening in the world, it is helpful to surround ourselves with comforting, inspiring and soul-nourishing people, things and events. These may include the arts, being in nature, pets and animals, and loved ones.
Below is one of my favorite passages from a play, followed by the announcement for one of my favorite musical events – ever.
“Music… music, music, is the purest expression of humanity that there is. Because, you see, it’s magic; but real magic, true mystery, not trickery. You can say that it is sound, as speech is sound as bird song is sound. But, it isn’t. It’s itself. A piece of music which expresses pain or sorrow, or loneliness, it sounds nothing like what a lonely man says or does, but it is expresses it, and even better than the person does. Magic. You see…[I know where they got the idea of God]; they got it from music. It is a kind of heaven. It’s unearthly. It lifts you out of life to another place. That was my prize, that’s what I won.” Tom Kempinski
